“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.
Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
At Athena Preparatory, we don’t place our focus on teaching high school students facts, equations, names, and dates that they will forget in two years. We don’t believe that education is the same as knowledge, and because of this, we aim to teach our students how to learn, why things work, and how to think critically about opinions and facts that are placed before them. We teach our students to think.
With this targeted approach, we are proud to be a prep school in Lodi that provides a genuine and comprehensive education, just as Martin Luther King, Jr. described. This is what sets us apart from other preparatory schools in the area, and this is why our students have gone on to excel not only in college, but in life.
Our Philosophy
Taking elements of education from the greats, including the ancient Egyptians, Renaissance scholars, Greek philosophers, and many others, we place a heavy importance on students being able to learn, understand, think critically, and communicate opinions and facts exceptionally well. In this way, we work to instill qualities in our high schoolers that will work for them for the rest of their lives. Through collaboration, discussion, and challenging standards, our students are given the tools they need to break the mold and stand out in a world of dependent teenagers by being independent thinkers, critical analysts, and intelligent contributors to society.
